To me, holidays have always been a time for taking a step back from the every day hustle and bustle of life and from all the mundane stresses that come with it. They’re about taking the time to appreciate your surroundings and the people you’re experiencing them with. Holidays are and always have been, where my most treasured memories are made.
Do you ever listen to a song or smell a scent that takes you right back to a specific moment? Whenever I hear the song Tequila Sunrise by The Eagles I’m transported back to a dreamy warm Majorcan evening; gentle breeze, skin still warm from the day’s scorching sunshine, cocktails all round and endless conversations with the people I love most.
Since becoming parents to our baby girl Nora Noodle back in 2012, holidays have changed remarkably. Gone are the late night karaoke sessions and hours spent wandering tiny side streets in forgotten parts of the world’s most beautiful cities; I liked those holidays but I love our new kind of holidays. There really is nothing more blissful than watching your beautifully bronzed baby frolicking on a white beach, collecting beach treasures and eating fresh watermelon. To me, that is a perfect holiday. This years’ will be made even more special with the arrival of baby numero dos – our first getaway as a family of four!
My recipe for the world’s most perfect holiday would be:
- A large helping of sunshine
- Equal measures of the purest white sand
- A crystal clear ocean
- A sprinkle of the most delicious culinary delights (I’m thinking chocolate brioche for breakfast)
- An unlimited amount of time spent with family
- A beautifully garnished Raspberry Mojito or two, for good measure!
