January 1st 2018. I unwrapped the flower clad 2018 calendar and hung it in the same familiar spot that held its predecessors. A new year, a new start, full of unknown beginnings and a chance to try everything all over again. And now, January, the month of good intentions, resolutions and more often than not, unrealistic expectations has been and gone, but on that very first day of this brand new year I made an unusual resolution; not to commit myself to too much and to think really carefully about what I want to achieve this year. I’ve spent January pondering and planning before penning my goals, hopes and wishes for 2018.
2018 will see me leave my twenties behind and enter a new, unknown territory. These years have been so very kind to me, they gave me my business, made me a home owner, a mother. I’ve seen parts of the world I’d never dreamed of, found passions for the most unexpected things. I’m nervous to see what lies ahead but also grateful for all the growing and learning I’ve done this past decade, I think I finally know who I am and that feels so good. I hope thirty brings me more happiness, even more adventures and maybe even a party – we can’t let it pass quietly, surely?!
I spent the majority of 2017 spreading myself way too thinly across far too many tasks which meant nothing I did was ever 100% and I dedicated hours upon ours to stressing and feeling generally rubbish about pretty much everything. I must remember to say ‘no’ more often and to place my efforts exactly where they’re needed. With this last crazy year behind me, I plan to make more time for myself. Self care is so essential for a healthy mindand my goodness me, I have neglected myself this last year. It’s so cliche to say my goal for this year is to lose some of my comfort eating acquired baggage but really, I want more than that. Of course I want to lose weight but more so, I want to look after myself. I want to feel good in my own skin and to feel positive and happy and in order to do this, I need to dedicate time to myself. I so often feel guilty if I’m not spending every spare moment with my babies but I’m no use to them stressy and burnt out. I’ve already enrolled myself into a mindfulness class so hopefully that will aid me in my path to self appreciation and acceptance.
Another huge goal we have for this year is to pick up sticks and leave our ‘five year house’ that we’ll have lived in for seven years this year. We’ve spent so much time and effort on our lovely 1920’s semi but I’m so ready for a new project, somewhere bigger and most definitely detached – these kids don’t have the volume settings for neighbours, that’s for sure. We totally need to get our financial bottoms into gear to make this goal a reality and thankfully we’ve enlisted the help of the lovely folk over at Newcastle Building Society and their brand new Financial Advice Branch in Durham City Centre. Their goal with their new branch is to help people in the Durham area, like us, create a better financial future. Newcastle Building Society are also launching a savings account exclusively for people like us who live within the Durham area. It’s a six month ISA which can be opened with a minimum of £500, offering an interest rate of 1.25% and can be opened exclusively inside the Durham branch. We will be heading to the new Sadler Street branch soon to discuss all things savings to ensure we can hop up that housing ladder a rung or two. Now to move the Right Move app to my home screen and religiously check for the perfect place to call home.
2017 was definitely a testing year and one I’m glad to say goodbye to. I’m certain 2018 is going to be filled with new family adventures, self care and heaps of fun.

Great blog with interesting posts
Sounds like you have a busy year ahead of you this year, but definitely agree with you about the self care, we can’t always take the best care of others if we are not our best selves because we are somewhat neglecting ourselves.
Good luck with your 2018 goals huni.
Jemma x

I really want to finish my first romance novel but take a relaxed approach, like you said, and not burn out. I’d also like to build up our savings as it was decimated with my health problems last year. I’d love to start a book review blog, but that’s a secondary goal and very much play-it-by-ear! 😉 Well done on being more easy on yourself. That’s sooo important. Actually I find I get MORE done overall and better health (and mood) if I don’t overdo. I learned that the hard way! Best of wishes for 2018! :)) xx
To become more independent
To lose weight and get healthy
My year goal is to eat less. I know that sounds a little odd but I have a problem with food as in I eat far too much for all the wrong reasons which has caused me to put on a lot of weight. I need to find a way to fight my food addiction.
My goals this year are to continue restoring my house. I intend to buy new carpets for the hallway and bedrooms this year and also to paint the back of the house.
This post really resonated with me. Probably especially so as we are the same age, even though at very different points in our lives – but there is just something about leaving your 20s!
My major year goal is to declutter my life so I can focus on what’s important. More “tangible” ones are to bake more, grow more of my own vegetables and enter an agricultural show with some of the results!
I am planning to get fit and lose weight.
Clear the shed!
Before I had my 3rd child I was lucky enough to pretty much be able to eat whatever I want and not gain too much weight, since having her the pounds are just piling on, my goals are to get out and do more exercise and cut down on treat days, I have a holiday booked in June and none of my summer clothes fit at the moment so I guess the main goal is to get back into them by June (or its going to be one hell of an expensive holiday shop)
Getting by, with the occasional moment or two of genuine interest.
Oh I have 18 goals for this year which I am well on my way to achieving
The bigest one for e is walking the west highland way which is a 96 mile hike. I’m doing it for mental health, mainly women and families experiencing post natal depression/anxiety/psychosis. I have always wanted to do this walk and after having had PND twice… i think t is now tie o do it. I leave on the 9th of April and Im hoping to do it over 6 days. I’ll be blogging about it and i’ve started my prep .. Best of luck to you and your goals this year! I can totally empathise with you and what you said regarding not being able to say no, and not giving things 100%. I think a lot of us are guilty of doing that

My goal is to have a proper de-clutter – the house is drowning in stuff!
I’d love to move to somewhere with a little more space this year, but I’m not sure it’s going to happen. Hopefully we can do some projects on our current place instead to make the most of what we have!
To de-clutter my house and to get healthier
what an amazing goal for 2018, we have lots of goals to put into place, im turning 30 this yr, my number one is to get fit enough to climb snowden, its something me and my partner have done many times on different trails, however after having kids and putting on weight there is no way we could do it, but this year is our year, start of slow as we mean to go on, 2019 shall be the year we take to it again,
I want to pay off a credit card. Oh and lose weight and find a nice man. Hmmm. The credit card seems more likely….
My son has recently become a vegetarian, and my daughter, thinking that was too easy, has decided veganism is the way forward for her! My goal is to find some recipes that work for the whole family, it may sound simple, but I’m struggling! Aren’t vegetarians supposed to like humous and lentils?? I have one big goal this year and that is to become a better timekeeper. I leave late, rush everywhere and try and do to much before I know I have to be somewhere. I must try to pace myself, realise my limits and not be afraid to sit read, chill and relax. Most things can wait till tomorrow. The children have grown up so I do not have to be Supermum anymore…..
We bought a house in need of a fair bit of modernisation in Jan, the builders are on the home straight now and the entire house has just been plastered so our goals for this year will be to decorate the entire house, and make a start on chopping down some of the garden.

Goals for the year – more quality time with lil one, more time doing things just for me and lose the working mum guilt.
My goal is to support my family through a difficult time.
I have similar plans for this year. Except, rather than leave a home we have lived in for a while, we need to start thinking about where we would like to settle down. We have been freewheeling all over with back to back holidays and have no place that we can call home. We can’t decide where we want to live longer term and have loved short term lets in loads of different cities. Our forever home is very elusive.
Good luck with your 2018 goals! I have just left my twenties a few months ago and recently bought a house with my wife. Our goal is to decorate upstairs this year, although I’m sure it will take a lot longer than we think! We would like to make as much time for fun as possible too, as buying the house seemed to take up most of last year.
